As a DSP, you will lead by example, bring a positive attitude, provide thoughtful and caring support to adults with intellectual disabilities and developmental needs.  You will focus on providing vocational, recreational, leisure and social skills, support and instruction with a focus on community integration.

Responsibilities

DSP responsibilties include:  

  • Supervising members' work production which includes the operation of machinery. 
  • Ensuring members' work quality. 
  • Actively assisting in enriching members' lives by encouraging recreation, leisure activities, and community inclusion.
  • Assisting members with activities of daily living and personal care as needed (e.g.: arrival and departure, eating, ambulation, transferring, restroom assistance, etc.) and provide emotional support and encouragement.
  • Participating in planning, facilitation and documentation of individual behavior support plans.
  • May be required to intervene in crisis situations and unexpected behaviors in accordance with approved strategies and techniques.

Qualifications

DSP qualifications include: 

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • This is a physical job, you will need to be able to:
    • Push, pull, bend, squat, turn, pivot, transfer and lift at least 50 pounds
  • Able to navigate technology and to enter data/documentation.
  • Ability to pass required physical exams including the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical preferred. 
  • Successful results of a background check, motor vehicle report, drug testing and any other state-specific requirements.
